| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays the moneyer's name, CVDBERHТ, arranged in two lines across the field, divided and punctuated by groups of pellets and cross motifs in a decorative interspersed layout typical of Alfred's Two-Line coinage. The lettering is executed in bold, angular Anglo-Saxon capitals, with additional pellet clusters flanking the inscription to fill the field. The arrangement is characteristic of late ninth-century English hammered coinage, attributing the piece to the moneyer Cuthberht. The irregular flan and variable die alignment are consistent with the hand-struck production methods of the period. |
