| Descrizione del dritto | A large capital letter O occupies the central field, serving as an abbreviation for Oslo (the mint city), rendered in bold relief within a plain inner circle. The letter is surrounded by a raised ring border, beyond which a radiating ray or sun garland encircles the entire design, forming a decorative outer wreath of alternating pointed lobes around the irregular flan. The bracteate construction produces a single-sided impression with the design visible in relief on the obverse and as a corresponding incuse on the reverse. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Norwegian bracteate coinage, with a strongly convex, irregular planchet typical of hand-hammered production. |

Norwegian half-penning production in this period falls within the reign of Haakon VI, who ruled from 1355 to 1380, though attributing individual pieces to specific decades within the Skaare 290 type remains difficult. The mid-fourteenth century was catastrophic for Norway — the Black Death, arriving around 1349, killed an estimated half of the population and effectively collapsed the domestic economy. Coin production contracted sharply, and many issues from this window survive in tiny numbers.
The half-penning was the smallest denomination in circulation, and few examples survived everyday use intact.
