Norway's coinage in the second half of the fourteenth century was shaped almost entirely by the catastrophic population collapse following the Black Death of 1349–1350, which killed roughly half the Norwegian population and gutted the administrative infrastructure of the realm. Mint output contracted severely, and the small silver fractions produced in this period were among the last coherent coinage issues before Norwegian monetary independence effectively dissolved into Danish dominance.
