Additional information

Struck under Sverre Sigurdsson, whose reign was defined by open civil war against the church and the rival Baglar faction backed by the papacy. Norway's coinage of this period was produced in extremely small flans with inconsistent silver content — a direct consequence of fragmented royal authority and disrupted trade networks along the Norwegian coast. Sverre was excommunicated in 1194, and the kingdom remained under interdict for years.

Skaare 158 is among the thinner, more irregular issues of the type.
