| Beschrijving voorzijde | A cross rendered with a single outer line and a central pellet, flanked by two concentric solid annulets encircling the composition. The design occupies the full field in a sparse, abstract style typical of Norwegian medieval bracteate coinage of the late 12th to early 13th century. |

Struck under the reign of Sverre Sigurdsson, whose legitimacy was contested throughout his rule — he claimed descent from King Eystein II but faced constant opposition from the Baglers, a church-backed faction that ran a rival kingdom in eastern Norway for much of this period. Minting activity under Sverre was decentralized and sporadic, conducted at multiple sites with little standardization.
Skaare 149 is among the thinner, more fragile fractions of this coinage, and surviving examples with clean flans are uncommon.
