| Obverse description | A large plain cross occupies the central field, its arms extending nearly to the inner border. Encircling the base of the cross is a beaded ring or inner circle of pellets, partially visible along the lower portion of the flan. The design is characteristic of the simple Romanesque ecclesiastical style prevalent in Norwegian hammered coinage of the mid-12th century. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of hand-struck bracteate-style issues of this period. No legend or inscription is present. |
