Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King José I facing right, with elaborately curled wig tied at the nape, rendered in high relief in the Baroque style. The king's effigy occupies the central field, truncated at the shoulders with a ribboned drapery visible at the base. The circumferential Latin legend reads JOSEPHUS.I.D.G. · PORT.ET.ALG.REX, and the date appears in the lower exergue below the bust. The entire design is enclosed within a finely executed rope-pattern border.
