Aanvullende informatie

Louis of Bourbon's tenure as Prince-Bishop of Liège was one of the most turbulent in the see's history. Appointed under Burgundian pressure in 1456, he was deeply unpopular with the city's communes, who revolted repeatedly against his rule. Charles the Bold of Burgundy eventually intervened with brutal finality at the Sack of Liège in 1468, razing much of the city as punishment for rebellion. This coin dates from the uneasy years after that destruction, when Louis attempted to reassert authority over a population that had never accepted him and would ultimately have him murdered in 1482.
