Additional information

Luxembourg's half patagon issues of this period were struck under the authority of Philip IV of Spain, whose sprawling inheritance included the Spanish Netherlands — of which Luxembourg formed the southernmost province. The Thirty Years' War was grinding through its second decade during this exact window, and the Spanish crown's chronic inability to fund its military commitments through Castile alone made the Netherlands mints politically essential. Local silver coinage kept garrisons paid and supply lines solvent when shipments from the Americas were delayed or intercepted.

Delmonte's classification separates this type across multiple die variants, and GH#330-5 reflects documented differences in the mint mark and privy mark combinations used across the emission years.
