This type bridges the forced abdication of Rezā Shāh in September 1941 — engineered by the Anglo-Soviet invasion and occupation of Iran — and the early consolidation of his son's reign under effective Allied supervision. Mohammad Rezā came to the throne at twenty-one with British and Soviet troops already on Iranian soil, and the coinage issued under his name during these years reflects a state that was sovereign in name only.
The legend-type designation distinguishes this issue from the portrait types that followed once the young Shāh's position stabilized.
