The high relief type was abandoned partway through production in favor of a flattened version — a purely mechanical concession, as the deeper dies wore faster and caused more frequent strikeovers. Specimens from the early years of this run show noticeably sharper modeling as a result.
These years coincided with the nationalization crisis that ultimately brought down Prime Minister Razmara in 1951 and brought Mosaddegh to power — a period of acute political instability during which the Imperial Mint's output was anything but routine.
