Reverse description A springbok antelope, the national symbol of South Africa, is depicted in full profile walking to the right across a stylised ground plane featuring sparse African veld vegetation, sculpted after the design of Coert Laurens Steynberg. The date is divided on either side of the springbok, with the first two digits to the left and the last two to the right of the central motif. The denomination '1/2 KRUGERRAND' arcs along the upper legend, while the lower legend reads 'FYNGOUD 1/2OZ FINE GOLD', affirming the coin's gold content in both Afrikaans and English. The engraver's initials 'CLS' appear discreetly in the exergue area near the ground line. The design is enclosed within a finely milled serrated border.
