| Beschrijving voorzijde | King Richard II depicted full-length in armour, standing erect within a ship, holding an upright sword in his right hand and a quartered shield of arms in his left. The royal arms bear the quarters of England and France. The legend commences with the initial mark cross pattée, and the abbreviated inscription opens with RIC over ЄDW at the start of the legend, referencing the king's name over that of his predecessor Edward. The design follows the established English noble tradition of the enthroned monarch at sea, rendered in the bold relief characteristic of late fourteenth-century hammered gold coinage. |
