The entire central device is surrounded by a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial lettering running along the outer margin: ✠ DOmInE ⁑ nE ⁑ IN ⁑ FVRORE ⁑ TVO ⁑ ARGVAS ⁑ mE, a Psalm verse invoking divine clemency. |
