Obverse description The dodecagonal obverse presents the denomination '1/2' in large numerals at the center of the field, with the Hebrew legend 'שקל חדש' and the Latin transliteration 'NEW SHEQEL' inscribed below. The trilingual country name 'ישראל · ISRAEL · اسرائيل' arcs around the upper periphery in Hebrew, Latin, and Arabic scripts respectively. The lower border carries the festival inscription 'HANUKKAH' in Latin, flanked by its Hebrew ('חנוכה') and Arabic ('חنوكه') equivalents, with the dual dating '5761 / 2001' appearing at the base of the field. A small menorah emblem is struck at the very bottom of the central area, serving as the Israel Mint mark.

Additional information

Israel's annual Hanukkah coin series, running since 1958, commemorates a different diaspora lamp style each year. The Yemenite lamp chosen for this issue reflects the distinct elongated oil-font design brought to Israel by Yemeni Jewish immigrants, largely through Operation Magic Carpet — the 1949–1950 airlift that transported nearly 50,000 Yemeni Jews to the newly established state in under sixteen months.
