Obverse description The denomination '1/2' is prominently displayed in large numerals at the center of the field, with the legend 'שקל חדש' (New Sheqel) inscribed below in Hebrew and 'NEW SHEQEL' in Latin script beneath that. The country name appears around the upper periphery in three scripts: Hebrew 'ישראל', Arabic 'اسرائيل', and Latin 'ISRAEL', with the Hebrew year 'התשנ"ד' also present in the legend. Along the lower rim, a stylized seven-branched menorah (Hanukkiah) appears between the bilingual festival inscription 'HANUKKA' in Latin and 'חנוכה' in Hebrew.
