| Reverse description | A finely detailed depiction of a Polish Hanukkah lamp (chanukiah) dated 1854 occupies the full central field, rendered in high relief. The tall ornate lamp features eight branches with cup-shaped candle holders and a central shamash, all supported by a decorative stem with spherical knops and a broad base. Hebrew inscriptions appear in the lower left and right portions of the field: 'חנוכיה מפולין' (Hanukkah lamp from Poland) to the left and 'המאה הי"ט' (the 19th century) to the right. |

This piece belongs to Israel's long-running Hanukkah lamp series, which the Bank of Israel has issued annually since 1958, each year featuring a lamp from a different Jewish diaspora community. The Polish lamp selected here reflects the design traditions of Central European Jewry before the Holocaust effectively ended that community's continuous presence in Poland — a fact the series implicitly acknowledges without ever stating it.
