| Reverse description | The denomination 伍角 (Five Jiao) is rendered in large, bold Chinese characters occupying the upper central field, with the Arabic numeral fraction 1/2 inscribed below. The entire central device is framed by an intricate decorative border composed of stylized traditional Chinese cloud or scroll motifs arranged symmetrically around the octagonal inner frame, lending the reverse a distinctly classical aesthetic. The rim is plain and unadorned beyond the decorative border. |

Taiwan's half-dollar denomination was effectively obsolete before this series even ended. Inflation throughout the 1980s and 1990s steadily eroded its purchasing power to near zero, and the coin persisted largely through institutional inertia rather than any practical demand. The Central Bank finally discontinued the type in 2004, by which point examples had largely vanished from circulation — not through wear, but through abandonment in drawers and jars across the island.
