Rana Bahadur Shah ascended the throne of Nepal as an infant in 1777, with his mother Rajendra Lakshmi serving as regent — a period marked by factional court struggles that ultimately spilled into his coinage administration. The gold mohar series issued under his name during the regency reflects continuity with Prithvi Narayan Shah's monetary framework, but the political instability behind the mint is considerable.
Rana Bahadur's later reign descended into erratic personal behavior severe enough that he was eventually forced to abdicate in 1799 and exiled to Varanasi.
