| 裏面の説明 | The reverse displays the mint name and AH regnal year within a central quadrilobe cartouche, a distinctive decorative device employed on Safavid hammered coinage to frame the essential administrative information. The inscription 'zarb Shah Abad' (struck at Shahabad) appears together with the AH date 981, corresponding to 1573 CE. A surrounding marginal field contains additional pious or royal inscriptions in nastaliq script. The strike is characteristic of the irregular flan shape typical of mid-sixteenth-century Iranian gold issues. |

Tahmasb I ruled the Safavid Empire for over half a century — the longest reign of any Safavid shah — yet gold coinage from his later years remains genuinely scarce. By the early 1570s his court had shifted focus toward the eastern frontier following decades of grinding Ottoman conflict, and provincial mints like Shahabad operated intermittently, producing small runs that rarely entered wide circulation. The Shahabad mint itself is poorly documented in the secondary literature, which partly explains Album's "N" prefix designation indicating an unconfirmed or provisional attribution.
