Obverse description The field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic-script legend in bold nasta'liq calligraphy, divided by a horizontal line into two registers. The upper register bears the devotional declaration of Shah Tahmasb I's servitude to Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, while the lower register records the ruler's name and title together with the mint name Nimruz and the AH date 983. A rope-and-bead inner border encircles the legend area, with a plain outer rim characteristic of hammered Safavid gold coinage.
