| Reverse description | Cruciform arrangement of four crowned heraldic shields occupying the central field, with a crowned thistle emblem at the centre of the cross. The four quarters display the arms of England (three lions passant guardant), Scotland (lion rampant), France (three fleurs-de-lis), and Ireland (harp), each surmounted by a royal crown. The date appears divided on either side of the upper shield, and the peripheral Latin legend MAG BRI FRA ET HIB REX (King of Great Britain, France and Ireland) runs around the coin with the year incorporated. The reverse shows characteristic Scottish milled coinage style with a beaded inner border. |
