Obverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of Maximilian II Emanuel, Elector of Bavaria, facing right, rendered in high relief with voluminous flowing curls cascading over the shoulders in the late Baroque manner. The mint mark appears in the lower field beneath the truncation. A circular Latin legend encircles the effigy, reading from the left side and continuing around the periphery within a toothed border.

Reverse description The Virgin Mary, crowned and nimbed, seated facing, holding the Christ Child on her left arm and a sceptre in her right hand, both figures depicted with haloes in the Baroque devotional tradition. Beneath the group is displayed a large ornate quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of Bavaria and the Electoral dignity, surmounted by a crown. The reverse legend IN TE SPERANTIBUS CLYPEUS OMNIBUS (A shield for all those who hope in Thee) runs around the periphery within a toothed border.
