The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and costume. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading CLE AUG D G EP PAD & MON V B D S R I P, abbreviating his titles as Bishop of Paderborn and Münster, Duke in Bavaria, and Prince of the Holy Roman Empire. The coin's milled edge is visible at the rim.
