Obverse description The German Imperial eagle displayed with spread wings, surmounted by an Imperial crown above two heraldic shields on the breast, with ornate scroll-work and talons below. The eagle is rendered in high relief with finely detailed feathering. An oak-leaf wreath frames the central device on either side, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The mint mark letter appears in the exergue at the bottom of the bow.

Reverse description The denomination '1/2 MARK' displayed in large numerals and lettering at the centre of the field, enclosed within a wreath of oak leaves tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The curved legend 'DEUTSCHES REICH' arcs along the upper periphery. The date is inscribed in the lower exergue below the wreath, with a fine beaded border encircling the entire design.
