1/2 Mark - Wilhelm I Pattern

Pattern coinage for the unified German Empire's half mark denomination emerged from a minting bureaucracy still settling on specifications following the 1871–73 monetary reform that created the Mark system. This piece predates confirmed regular-issue half marks by a year, placing it squarely in the trial-strike phase when the Imperial mints were reconciling design submissions with production tolerances. Patterns from this window rarely entered official records with the same rigor as circulation strikes, which is why survivor populations are difficult to quantify with any confidence.
