The Verein Naturschutzpark was a German conservation society founded in 1909 with the explicit goal of preserving large tracts of the Lüneburg Heath from agricultural and industrial encroachment. By 1921, postwar inflation had eaten so deeply into small-denomination coinage that even a nature reserve needed its own emergency money — this Notgeld was almost certainly intended for use within the Heidepark itself, functioning as a self-contained scrip for visitors and staff.

The dual name in the series designation reflects the organization's twin concerns: the broader conservation mission and the specific park operation. Notgeld issued by non-municipal bodies in this period is considerably less common than town-issued pieces.
