Beschrijving keerzijde The Swedish Three Crowns device occupies the central field, depicting three open royal crowns arranged two above and one below in triangular formation, boldly struck on the irregular square flan. Beneath the crowns, the denomination inscription is rendered in large characters across the lower portion of the field. The design is unframed and fills the flan in a characteristic klipping style, with no border ornamentation.

Aanvullende informatie

Johan III's klippingar of this type were emergency issues, square-cut from bar stock rather than struck on round planchets, a production method that prioritized speed over uniformity. Sweden's chronic silver shortage in the late sixteenth century meant the crown repeatedly debased its billon coinage — the .090 fineness here sits near the floor of what could still be marketed as silver currency. Johan III died in November 1592, making the terminal date of this issue also the terminal date of his reign.
