Glogau's municipal half-mark notgeld was issued in 1918 as the German wartime economy drained small-denomination coinage from circulation entirely. Carl Flemming & T. C. Wiskott was a well-established Glogau printing and publishing firm — unusually, the note was both commissioned and printed within the same town, which was not always the case with municipal emergency issues of this period.
The official stamp served as the primary anti-counterfeiting measure, a thin guarantee in a city already producing its own emergency currency out of necessity.
