| Obverse description | Two rampant lions as supporters flank a central multi-tiered city gate or castle, depicted in detailed architectural style. Above the castle, a pair of crossed keys are displayed, serving as the civic arms of Riga. A circular Latin legend is divided above and below the central device, reading CIVITATI - RIGENSIS. The overall composition is characteristic of the hammered coinage of Baltic free cities in the mid-sixteenth century, with the design filling the broadly struck, irregularly shaped flan. |

| Reverse description | At center, a heraldic shield bearing crossed keys surmounted by a cross, rendered within an ornamental frame or cartouche. The shield device occupies the central field, with the date partially incorporated into the surrounding circular Latin legend. The legend MONETA · NOVA · ARGENTEA · 65 runs around the periphery of the coin, denoting the new silver coinage and referencing the last two digits of the year of issue. The style is consistent with mid-sixteenth century north German and Baltic civic minting practice, with bold, deeply engraved lettering. |
