| Obverse description | Left-facing armored bust of Emperor Maximilian I occupying the central field, depicted wearing an imperial crown and pauldron-clad shoulders rendered in a late-medieval engraving style characteristic of early sixteenth-century Italian hammered coinage. The effigy is boldly struck in high relief with cross-hatched detailing on the armor and a stylized foliate scroll ornament at the base of the truncation. The surrounding circular legend reads MAXIMILIANVS CAESAR, disposed in large Gothic-influenced Roman capitals within a beaded inner border. The flan is irregular in outline, consistent with hand-hammered production, and exhibits characteristic die wear across the high points of the portrait. |
