| 裏面の説明 | Imperial double-headed eagle displayed with wings spread, head turned to the left, surmounted by an archducal or imperial crown. The wings are rendered in fine feather detail typical of Este coinage of this period. The circumferential Latin motto legend encircles the eagle within a dotted border. |

Francesco III d'Este ruled Modena from 1737, but his grip on the duchy was perpetually complicated by Austrian patronage — he owed his position largely to Habsburg support following the War of Polish Succession, and his coinage policy reflected that dependency. The billon issues of his early reign were struck at a moment when the duchy's silver resources were thin and its monetary credibility thinner.
MIR 846 is among the scarcer Francesco III types; the Modena mint was never a high-volume operation, and billon fractions from the 1738 period survive in genuinely limited numbers.
