Obverse description The quartered Gonzaga coat of arms is displayed within an ornate baroque cartouche, surmounted by a princely crown with visible arches and beaded band. The shield is divided into four quarters bearing the heraldic devices of the Gonzaga dynasty, including a cross and the characteristic Gonzaga eagle motifs. The cartouche is flanked by elaborate foliate scrollwork extending into the field on either side. The circumferential Latin legend runs along the coin's periphery, interrupted by a pellet stop motif. The entire composition is characteristic of late seventeenth-century Italian hammered coinage, with an irregular planchet edge typical of the period.
