Reverse description The reverse presents a full-length frontal figure, nimbed and robed, standing between two large shields each charged with a fleur-de-lis, held outward by crossed sceptres or staves — a depiction consistent with Saint Andrew or a royal devotional figure associated with the Scottish crown. The figure stands on a decorative platform or base, rendered in the Gothic heraldic style typical of late medieval Scottish gold coinage. A beaded inner circle encloses the central design, while the peripheral legend in Gothic uncial script reads SALVV FAC PPLVV TVV DN, the Psalmist's invocation 'O Lord, save Thy people.' The overall execution reflects the hammered die technique of the Edinburgh mint under James IV.
