| Obverse description | Central quartered shield bearing the arms of Austria-Burgundy, displaying the combined heraldic devices of the ruling archdukes, surmounted by an ornate crown. The legend surrounding the shield reads ALBERTVS ET ELISABE[T] D G, identifying the joint rulers Albert and Isabella as sovereigns by the grace of God. The shield quarters display the distinctive striped and leonine elements of the Habsburg-Burgundian composite arms. The overall design is characteristic of the coarse hammered copper coinage of the Spanish Netherlands in the early seventeenth century. |
