Reverse description Central field displays two crossed fire steels (fusils) of the Order of the Golden Fleece arranged in saltire, surmounted by an archducal crown, with a date divided on either side — here illustrated as 1616 — and a small mintmaster's mark below. The crossed fire steels serve as the principal heraldic device of the sovereign dukes. A beaded inner circle contains the central design, while the outer circular legend ARCHID · AVST · DVC · BVRG · ET · B · Z runs around the full periphery, proclaiming the archducal and ducal titles of Austria, Burgundy, Brabant, and so forth. The design is executed in a bold, somewhat crude relief characteristic of hammered small copper coinage of the Southern Netherlands.
