| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King James I facing left, wearing a laurel wreath and mantle with a ruffled collar visible at the neck. A Roman numeral X appears to the right of the bust, denoting the denomination in shillings. The effigy is rendered in the bold, slightly stylised manner characteristic of early Stuart hammered coinage.
