Sigismund von Schrattenbach ruled the Archbishopric of Salzburg from 1753 until his death in 1771, and these small silver fractions were produced during the earlier portion of his tenure. He is better remembered today as the Archbishop who employed Leopold Mozart as Vice-Kapellmeister and who tolerated — for a time — the young Wolfgang's repeated absences from Salzburg on concert tours across Europe.
