1/2 Kreuzer - Franz II

Further Austria (Vorderösterreich) was the collective name for the Habsburg dynasty's scattered territorial holdings in southwestern Germany and the Upper Rhine — a patchwork of lordships administratively distinct from the main Austrian lands. Franz II continued issuing copper minor coinage for these territories even as French Revolutionary armies were systematically dismantling Habsburg control of the region throughout the 1790s. The Treaty of Campo Formio in 1797 effectively sealed the fate of these possessions, making the later dates in this series coins of a jurisdiction already lost in practice before it was surrendered on paper.
