| Additional information |
Thurgau had only been recognized as a full Swiss canton in 1803, elevated from its status as a subject territory under the old Confederation. This 1808 issue belongs to the earliest period of genuine cantonal monetary independence, struck within the first decade of that political reorganization. Billon coinage of this weight and module wore quickly in circulation, and survivors in anything above Fine are genuinely scarce — not because mintages were low, but because the alloy was unforgiving and the pieces were worked hard.
