Obverse description Central field depicts a walking bear facing left in profile, rendered in low relief on an irregular flan. Above the bear, a displayed eagle with spread wings serves as the civic arms of Bern. The peripheral legend MONE BERNENS : runs around the coin within the outer border, identifying the issuing city. The design is executed in the characteristic crude hammered style of early seventeenth-century Swiss cantonal coinage, without an inner circle.

Obverse lettering MONE BERNENS :
Reverse description A plain cross, boldly struck, occupies the central field, dividing the reverse into four quadrants. The surrounding peripheral legend BERCHT ZERING CO encircles the cross, referencing the Bernese monetary authority. The lettering is set in a Gothic-influenced style typical of Swiss billon coinage of this period. The overall strike is characteristic of hammered technique, with some flatness and irregularity at the edges.
