| Obverse description | Central field bears the two-line Arabic inscription naming the ruler, enclosed within a wreath of olive or laurel branches tied at the base. The legends are rendered in thin, elegant Arabic script characteristic of this issue. The overall design is simple and unadorned, typical of early Mukalla coinage. |

Mukalla, a port town on the Hadhramaut coast of what is now Yemen, operated under the Qu'aiti sultanate — a dynasty whose wealth derived substantially from Hadhramis who had emigrated to the Dutch East Indies and remitted fortunes home. Small fractional bronzes like this circulated in a local economy that ran partly on that diaspora capital. The "thin legends" die variant distinguishes this from the thicker-inscription strikes of the same type, a difference attributed to separate working dies rather than any intentional design revision.
