| Obverse description | Central field features the denomination 半角 (Half Jiao) inscribed vertically within a beaded inner circle, around which a coiled dragon is depicted in relief, rendered in the traditional Chinese style. The outer legend, arranged in a circular format, carries Chinese characters reading 大清 (Great Qing) at the top and 造局器械洋北 (Bei Yang Arsenal) to the right, with the reign date 光緒二十三年 (23rd year of Guangxu) to the left. Manchu script occupies the remaining peripheral space, mirroring the Chinese inscriptions with the full mint and date information. The coin is bordered by a fine reeded rim with an inner beaded circle separating the legend from the dragon motif. The overall design presents a dense and intricate arrangement characteristic of late Qing dynasty provincial coinage. |
