| Obverse description | The obverse bears a bold Arabic religious legend in thuluth script, occupying the majority of the flan and arranged in multiple registers across the field. The Shahada and declaration of Ali's wilayat are inscribed in deeply struck, calligraphic relief: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God.' The hammered flan exhibits an irregular, slightly scalloped edge characteristic of Safavid gold coinage of this period. The script is prominently raised against a plain gold field with no additional decorative devices. |
