| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden, depicted as a young man with short wavy hair and a light moustache, in high relief against a flat field. The truncation is clean, with the engraver's name VOIGT incised in small capitals at the base. The circular legend reads FRIEDRICH GROSSHERZOG VON BADEN, arranged along the upper and lateral periphery. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style characteristic of Carl Friedrich Voigt's work. A finely executed inner border of beads frames the entire design. |

| Reverse description | The denomination 1/2 GULDEN, displayed on two lines in bold serif lettering, occupies the centre of the field, with the date 1856 directly below. The entire central legend is enclosed within a wreath of oak branches, tied at the base with a ribbon bow, the foliage rendered in fine detail with acorns visible among the leaves. A dentillated border runs along the coin's outer rim. The composition is symmetrical and austere, in keeping with the coinage conventions of the South German monetary union. |
