| Obverse description | Laureate first bust of King Charles II facing right, with a pointed truncation and a characteristic lock of hair falling to the front of the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the style of John Roettier, with the king depicted wearing a laurel wreath and drapery at the shoulder. The encircling legend reads CAROLVS·II·DEI·GRATIA, identifying the monarch by name and invoking divine right. The field is smooth and uncluttered, focusing attention on the refined portraiture characteristic of early milled English coinage. |

| Reverse description | Four crowned cruciform shields bearing the arms of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland arranged in a cross pattern, with sceptres bearing national emblems filling the angles between the shields. At the centre, four interlinked Cs form a decorative monogram beneath a single crown. The date is divided and appears above the uppermost shield, split by the crown. The encircling legend MAG·BR·FRA·ET·HIB·REX with the year date proclaims Charles II's sovereignty over Great Britain, France, and Ireland. |
