| Obverse description | Central field features a floriated cross pattée with curved, cusped arms enclosed within a raised inner beaded circle. A royal crown surmounts the top of the inner circle at twelve o'clock. The surrounding legend in Gothic Latin characters reads KAROLUS : DEI : GRA, separated by pellet stops, and runs between the inner beaded border and the irregular outer rim. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of medieval hammered coinage. |

| Reverse description | Central device consists of the crowned arms of Navarre — a shield bearing the traditional chain device of Navarre (the escudo de las cadenas), depicting a cross formed of chains linked by roundels on a plain field, all surmounted by a royal crown above the shield. The shield is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding Latin legend CAVARRE : REX runs between the inner beaded border and the irregular outer rim, in Gothic script with pellet stops. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped, consistent with hammered medieval silver coinage. |
