Beschrijving voorzijde The quartered arms of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg displayed on a heraldic shield, featuring alternating fields with horizontal lines, crosshatching, and a central pale charged with a cross patonce, rendered in fine engraved relief. The shield is flanked on both sides by foliate laurel branches forming a decorative garland. Surmounting the shield is a grand ducal crown with prominent arches, jewelled band, and ermine lining, centrally placed above the composition. No surrounding legend is present; the field is otherwise plain.

Aanvullende informatie

Paul Frederick August ruled Oldenburg from 1829 until his death in 1853, and this small copper issue falls squarely within his early reign — a period when the Grand Duchy was navigating the political turbulence following the July Revolution of 1830 in France, which sent tremors through the German states and briefly threatened the stability of several minor courts, including Oldenburg's. The Grote was a north German regional denomination with deep roots in Bremen and the surrounding territories, resisting the broader push toward Prussian-influenced monetary standardization that would eventually render such local fractional copper obsolete.
