Obverse description Two standing figures facing front occupy the central field: at left, the Doge Lorenzo Tiepolo in ducal robes and cap, and at right, Saint Mark the Evangelist, patron of Venice, nimbed and draped. The figures appear to be in the act of a ceremonial investiture, a hallmark of Venetian coinage iconography. A partial Latin legend is visible along the left periphery of the coin. The style is consistent with Byzantine-influenced medieval die work, rendered in low relief on an irregular hammered flan.
