Cabrino Fondulo seized Cremona in 1406 through the murder of his lord, Carlo Cavalcabò, and ruled the city as a self-styled signore for roughly fifteen years before Francesco Sforza's expansion extinguished his regime. His coinage — this half grosso among it — represents the output of a usurper who briefly held Cremona against the competing pressures of Milan, Venice, and the Visconti. Fondulo was ultimately captured by Filippo Maria Visconti and executed in 1425.
